Chris Gayle issues hesitant statement of regret to games columnist Mel McLaughlin


Melbourne Renegades batsman Chris Gayle has issued a hesitant expression of remorse to Channel 10 sports columnist Mel McLaughlin, after he propositioned her live reporting in real time.

"I said a joke broadcasting live, and it went out of extent, I never intended to be insolent to Mel," the West Indies player told correspondents at Melbourne Airport at the beginning of today. "A considerable measure of things have erupted from a straightforward remark, a joke, a basic joke on air and it appeared to went out of extent," the Jamaican said. "There wasn't any damage done and I'll abandon it at that." 



In a meeting show live, Gayle told McLaughlin he had intentionally been rejected from a match with the Hobart Hurricanes so he could "look in your eyes" then said "Ideally we can win this diversion, and have a beverage after. Try not to become flushed, infant." 

The plainly uncomfortable correspondent looked down and stayed away from eye contact as he made the comments.

"I needed to have a meeting with you also, that is the reason I'm here," he said. 

A giggling Gayle at last said "goodness sorry" before McLaughlin crossed back to the editorial group. At the beginning of today Gayle said his remarks were "blown method for extent" and "no mischief" was expected.



"It was a basic joke, the diversion was going on. Stimulation things escape extent yet these things do happen." Rebels supervisor Stuart Coventry likewise addresses the media at the beginning of today, and apologized on Gayle's benefit. 

Channel 10 said they would not show any all the more live meetings with Gayle for the rest of the season. Previous England chief Andrew Flintoff likewise said Gayle was out of line for his comments.

In an announcement, the leader of the Big Bash League, Anthony Edward, said there was "no spot" for Gayle's comments in cricket. "I heard Chris' remarks and they're discourteous and basically improper," Mr Edward said. 




"We'll unquestionably be conversing with him and the Renegades about it.
"This association is about its speak to children, families and females. "There's simply no spot in the BBL or, besides, cricket anyplace, for that kind of conduct." The Renegades went ahead to win the match, requiring only 14 overs to achieve the Hurricanes aggregate of 140.
